Sustainability Risks & Opportunities: Legal and Strategic Implications of ESG Disclosure
Companies face uncharted waters in accommodating shareholder, marketplace, and public demands for the management and disclosure of sustainability risks and opportunities. As a result, legal, financial, sustainability, and strategy professionals face new strategic choices, liability issues, and reputational threats related to Environmental/Social/Governance (ESG) reporting.
We would like to invite you to a roundtable discussion on Friday April 17, 2020 at the Yale Law School for a conversation focusing on the role corporate lawyers play in facing present and future sustainability imperatives.
C-Suite executives and Boards are struggling with how to address increasing shareholder demands for ESG commitments. Both in-house lawyers and outside corporate counsel as well as sustainability professionals are on the front lines in thinking through how to navigate liability and strategic risks associated with the production and disclosure of this information and risk-management of sustainability strategy more broadly. What should in-house and outside counsel do to address the rapidly changing demands associated with sustainability?
On April 17 we will gather a small (about 25 people), high-powered group of subject-matter and industry experts to examine this very real, and often overlooked, legal and strategy challenge. This off-the-record (not for attribution) conversation will cover:
- How in-house executives are adapting to the new world order of sustainability and moving from reactive to strategic thinking — with enhanced linkages to their organization’s broader business strategy.
- How in-house executives handle the intricate task of identifying and managing material sustainability issues across various business functions
- How to address the pressures and choices brought about by sustainability initiatives — in the context of both legal mandates and broader considerations including investor and public perceptionS
- How to deal with the strategic and legal consequences of ESG reporting
Join our breakfast roundtable on April 17, 2020 to share your perspectives, network with peers, and learn best practices from experts. No presentations or pitches, just a genuine, off the record conversation.
